Over-whelming: Luci’s big day at the plate leads Culver into sectional semis

Hinds: 4 hits at plate, CG win in circle; next up: No. 1 South Central

Luci Overmyer had three singles, two doubles and seven RBIs, and A.J. Hinds had four hits at the plate and also pitched a complete game in the circle to lead the Culver softball team to a 21-11 win over Triton in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 quarterfinal at South Central (Union Mills) Tuesday.

Overmyer and Hinds combined for nine of Culver’s 19 hits. The Lady Cavaliers also drew eight walks.

Maegan Pearl also had three hits and two RBIs. Kaitlyn Kanschat singled, doubled and drove in four runs. Kaylee Hamilton also had two hits and four RBIs.

EmmaLee Hillman also had two hits. Abbi Kisela singled and walked twice.

Hinds allowed nine hits and two earned runs. She walked three and struck out one. Culver committed six errors, which led to nine unearned runs for Triton.

Culver trailed 5-2 after three innings. They scored two runs in the fifth to go ahead for good at 10-8. Leading 14-11 after six innings, Culver scored seven more runs in the top of the seventh.

Culver improved to 7-16. Triton finished 4-17.

Culver also beat Triton 20-4 in five innings in their Hoosier North meeting on May 10.

Culver will play top-ranked South Central, who routed Argos 17-0 in Monday’s quarterfinal, in the semifinals. Game time is 6 p.m. Eastern Wednesday.

Culver has never won a sectional title in softball.
