Rudicel, Spin score in double figures, but shorthanded Caston falls to Wabash

Boys basketball

Wabash 53, Caston 49 (Tuesday): Bryce Rudicel scored 16 points, and Joey Spin added 14, but the visiting Comets fell to Wabash at the renovated Coolman Gymnasium in their season opener Tuesday.

Jake Paschen scored eight points, all in the first quarter.

Caston hit eight 3-pointers and made nine of 12 free throws.

Joe Leland led Wabash with 23 points. Wabash made more free throws (14) than Caston attempted (12).

Caston led 30-25 at halftime, but Wabash came back to lead 43-37 after three quarters.

Kade Zeider, Sam Smith, Cam Kline, Grant Hickle and Carter See all did not play for Caston. Coach Carl Davis told RTC that they were in quarantine but are expected back for the Cass Invitational game against Pioneer at Logansport Dec. 2.

Zeider is Caston’s leading returning scorer from last year.
