Akase, Johnson score in double figures, but Valley drops opener

Mishawaka 61, Tippecanoe Valley 47 (Wednesday): Stephen Akase scored 13 points, and Kyler Johnson added 10 for the host Vikings in a season-opening loss to Mishawaka at Rita Price Simpson Court Wednesday.

DeOndre Hamilton and Wes Parker added eight points each.

Brady Fisher scored 18 of his game-high 20 points in the first half for Mishawaka.

The Cavemen led 37-20 at halftime. Valley cut the deficit to 49-35 after three quarters.

Valley has lost nine of their last 10 season openers.

In other Valley news, the home game with Knox scheduled for Friday has been postponed to Feb. 9.
