Argos sports briefs: Edmonds, VanDerWeele combine for 17, but Argos falls to Bethany

Girls basketball

Bethany Christian 30, Argos 23 (Saturday): Lizzy Edmonds scored nine points, and Madi VanDerWeele added eight for the visiting Lady Dragons in a loss to Bethany Christian in their first ever Hoosier Plains Conference game.

Sophie Bollenbacher added four points, and Emma Dunlap had two.

Argos (0-2) was held to two points in the third quarter.

Bethany Christian led 18-13 at halftime.

The Lady Bruins outscored Argos 11-1 from the foul line.

Caston 37, Argos 21 (Thursday): Freshman guard Isabel Scales scored 18 points in her varsity debut to lead the Caston girls basketball team to a win over visiting Argos Thursday.

Scales also had seven steals. She outscored the entire Argos team 12-11 in the second half.

Jordan Clingler added five points and six rebounds. Addison Zimpleman had four points, six rebounds and five steals. Bailey Harness had four points and four rebounds.

Lizzy Edmonds had six points, and Sophie Bollenbacher added five for Argos (0-1).

Caston led 18-10 at halftime. Caston outscored Argos 13-5 from the foul line.

The game marked the coaching debuts for both Argos’ Scott Jennings and Caston’s Josh Douglass.
