Softball players Zahm, Stackhouse, Baughman, Lineberry named all-Hoosier Plains

Softball

Argos’ Allison Zahm, Ava Stackhouse, Kadyn Baughman and Makena Lineberry were selected first-team all-Hoosier Plains in voting done by the conference’s coaches and released to the media.

In addition, Kendra Burkholder earned honorable mention status.

Zahm, a senior, hit .364 with 10 RBIs and also went 5-11 with a 5.15 ERA in the circle. Stackhouse, a freshman, hit .333 with 18 RBIs.

Baughman, a junior, led the team in both doubles (8) and RBIs (19) while hitting .333.

Lineberry, a senior, hit .320 with five RBIs.

Burkholder, a sophomore, hit .244 with 11 RBIs.

Kouts 11, Argos 1 (5 innings, May 19): Ava Stackhouse doubled, and Carleigh Miller and Kendra Burkholder each had a single for Argos in a road loss to Kouts on May 19.

Makena Lineberry walked twice and scored Argos’ lone run in the first inning.

Allison Zahm pitched 4 ⅔ innings and allowed 14 hits and 11 runs (10 earned). She walked two and struck out five.

Kouts scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Makena Lineberry singled and drove in two runs, and Lily McMillen had a hit and an RBI. Brylee Elliott, Kadyn Baughman and Ava Stackhouse each contributed a single.

Allison Zahm pitched a three-hitter with seven walks and 15 strikeouts.

Argos built a 6-0 lead after three innings and held on.

Culver Academy 9, Argos 7 (8 innings, May 12): Allison Zahm had two singles and a double and drove in two runs, and Ava Stackhouse also had three hits and two RBIs, but the host Lady Dragons lost to Culver Academy in extra innings on May 12.

Carleigh Rex also had three hits for Argos. Kara Sabanski singled and tripled and drove in a run. Carleigh Miller had a pair of singles. Makena Lineberry had a hit.

Allison Zahm pitched a complete game and allowed 11 hits and five earned runs. She walked five and fanned seven.

Culver Academy trailed 6-4 after six innings but scored two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth.

Allison Zahm took the loss in the circle. She pitched the first four innings and allowed 15 hits and 20 runs (eight earned) while walking four, hitting two batters and fanning one. Miller allowed three hits and a run in one inning of relief.

West Central scored nine runs in the first inning. The Lady Trojans had six extra-base hits.

Argos committed two errors in the bottom of the seventh that led to three unearned runs for River Forest.

Argos 19, South Bend Career Academy 0 (5 innings, April 29): Kadyn Baughman went 5 for 5 with four doubles and a single and five RBIs, and Allison Zahm tossed a no-hitter for Argos in a Hoosier Plains road win over South Bend Career Academy.

Zahm also had two hits and two RBIs at the plate, and Makena Lineberry had two hits and an RBI. Ava Stackhouse and Shelby Weiser each had a hit and an RBI. Lily McMillen drove in three runs and scored four times.

Lexi Schenkel doubled, and Carlie Rex and Kendra Burkholder each had a single.

Zahm walked none and fanned eight. She faced 16 batters, one more than the minimum.

Argos scored six runs in the top of the first. They scored in all five innings in which they batted.

Lily McMillen added a triple and an RBI, and Carlie Rex and Kadyn Baughman also had hits. Ava Stackhouse had an RBI.

Zahm took the loss in the circle. She allowed nine hits and 11 runs (two earned) while walking four and striking out seven.

The teams combined for 18 errors. Of the 21 combined runs, only two were earned.

Knox trailed 6-1 after two innings but scored four in the third, one in the fifth and five in the ninth.

Ava Stackhouse had two hits and four RBIs, and Makena Lineberry and Carlie Rex also had two hits. Brylee Elliott, McMillen, Kendra Burkholder and Kara Sabanski had one hit each.

Sabanski had two RBIs, and McMillen, Lineberry and Burkholder had one RBI each.

Zahm also drew three walks, and Carleigh Miller walked twice. As a team, Argos drew nine walks.

Argos scored five runs in the first inning and nine more in the second.

Miller lost in the circle after allowing one hit and four runs (none earned) in ⅓ of an inning. She walked three and struck out one. Zahm allowed six runs (two earned) in one inning while allowing three hits, walking two and fanning one. Aleasia Sarver pitched 3 ⅔ innings and allowed 10 hits and nine runs (two earned) while walking one and striking out three.

Elkhart Christian jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the third inning.

Stackhouse’s hit was a double, and McMillen’s hit was a triple.

Baughman had three singles, and Zahm had two singles and a double. Carlie Rex and Brylee Elliott each had two hits and an RBI. Carleigh Miller had a double, and Makena Lineberry had a single.

Allison Zahm pitched a nine-hitter with five walks and 10 strikeouts. Argos committed four errors which led to four unearned runs for Westville.

Argos also received nine walks, including two each for Zahm and Stackhouse.

Zahm pitched a four-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts. Argos committed eight errors, and all four runs Zahm allowed were unearned.

Argos took the lead for good with three runs in the second inning, and they added four more in the seventh after LaVille had cut the deficit to 5-4.

Burkholder relieved and pitched 3 ⅓ innings and allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out one. Kyle Bradley got the final out in the sixth.

Argos pitchers walked four, and the Dragons also committed seven errors.

Burkholder pitched an eight-hitter and allowed three earned runs. He walked one and struck out three.

Argos jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. They also scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Kyle Bradley relieved and allowed five hits and six runs in two innings. He walked one.

Argos committed eight errors that led to seven unearned runs for LaCrosse.

LaCrosse scored four runs in the top of the third to take the lead for good at 5-2.

LaCrosse later defeated Argos 7-1 in the sectional quarterfinals.

Kindig had two singles, two doubles and an RBI as Argos won the first game 12-6. Nate Manikowski had two singles and a double, and Kole Burkholder and Kurt Johnson had two hits and three RBIs each. Bryce Beerwart had a hit and an RBI, and Kayden Brady also had an RBI. Jackson Kindig singled, walked and scored twice.

Burkholder got the win after allowing two runs (one earned) over four innings. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out eight. Kindig relieved and allowed three hits and four runs (all earned) in two innings of relief. He walked three and fanned four. Kurt Johnson pitched a scoreless seventh to close the game out.

Dylan Kindig hit a solo homer in the second, drove in a run with a single in the fifth and hit a three-run homer as part of an eight-run sixth. Jackson Kindig singled, doubled and drove in three runs; Burkholder added two hits and two RBIs; and Jamin Trump singled, doubled, walked twice and had two RBIs.
