Bailey, Straeter win singles, Graber-St. Martin win doubles to help Lady Zs prevail in season opener

Rochester 3, John Glenn 2 (Tuesday): Olivia Bailey won at No. 1 singles, Ellie Straeter won at No. 2 singles, and J.J. Graber and Abriella St. Martin won their first match at No. 1 doubles in three sets as the Lady Zs beat host John Glenn in their season opener Tuesday.

Bailey, who did not play last year, and Straeter won in straight sets. Both had previous varsity experience in doubles but were making their singles debuts. Bailey is the team’s only senior.

Graber, a transfer from Goshen, is a newcomer to the tennis team as is St. Martin’s new partner; both are juniors.

Emma Murphy lost in straight sets at No. 3 singles, and Hailey Crissinger and Ella Ramsey lost in straight sets at No. 2 doubles.

John Glenn won the JV match 4-0.

This marked the return to coaching for Rochester’s Jesse Atkinson after a three-year hiatus.

Olivia Bailey (RHS) won 6-4, 7-6 (3).

Ellie Straeter (RHS) won 6-2, 6-2.

Emma Murphy (RHS) lost 7-5, 7-6 (5).

Doubles

J.J. Graber-Abriella St. Martin (RHS) won 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Hailey Crissinger-Ella Ramsey (RHS) lost 6-1, 6-0.
