Caston sports briefs: Boys golf, track season recaps

Boys golf

Caston 197, Culver 213: A.J. Dague led Caston with a 43 in a win over Culver at Pond View Golf Course in Star City May 24.

Dom Hersemann and Colby Pugh each carded a 50, and Marshall Finke and Dean Sylvain each had a 54.

Caston finishes 5th in Hoosier North: Caston’s A.J. Dague shot an 87 to earn honorable mention all-Hoosier North status at the conference tournament at Chesapeake Run Golf Club in North Judson May 22.

As a team, Caston shot a 398 and finished fifth out of eight teams. Triton won the title with a 320.

Other Caston scores included Dom Hersemann’s 98, Colby Pugh’s 98, Marshall Finke’s 114 and Dean Sylvain’s 118.

Whitko 180, Tippecanoe Valley 190, Caston 215: A.J. Dague led Caston with a 46, but the Comets finished third in a three-way match against Whitko and Valley at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek on May 10.

Dom Hersemann added a 50, Colby Pugh had a 59, Marshall Finke had a 60, and Dean Sylvain and Brayden Duff each shot a 61.

Caston takes 4th at Pioneer Invite: The Caston boys golf team shot a 431 and finished fourth out of 10 teams at the Pioneer Invitational at Pond View Golf Course in Star City May 8.

A.J. Dague led Caston with a 95, Dom Hersemann had a 105, Colby Pugh had a 111, and Dean Sylvain had a 120.

Caston 218, North Miami 261: Dom Hersemann shot a 50 to lead Caston to a home win over North Miami at Pond View Golf Course in Star City on April 30.

A.J. Dague added a 52, Colby Pugh had a 57, Dean Sylvain had a 59, Marshall Finke had a 60, and Brayden Duff had a 64.

“The boys varsity golf team had some difficulties with the wind tonight but battled through it for a team victory over North Miami tonight at Pond View Golf Course,” Caston coach Chuck Evans said in a statement.

Track

LaVille 78, Caston 41, Culver 35 (girls)

LaVille 90, Caston 55, Culver 15 (boys)

Bailey Turnpaugh won the 100 meters, the 200 and also ran a leg on the victorious 4 x 100 relay team for the Caston girls as they finished second in a three-way meet at LaVille on May 4.

Delaney Strasser won the 1,600, and Mackenzi Roudebush won the 3,200.

Other Caston scorers included Emma Stinson, who was second in the 100 hurdles; Megan Brown, who was third in the 100; Breana Amezquita, who was fourth in the 400; Stevanna Young, who was fourth in the 1,600; Ali Paul, who was third in the long jump; and Elizabeth Pierce, who was fourth in the long jump.

The 4 x 800 relay placed second.

Caston also claimed second in the boys meet. Brady Evans won the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 400 meters, and Edison Byrum won both the 800 and 1,600. Austin Dague added a win in the 3,200.

Other Caston scorers included Jake Paschen, who was second in both the 100 and 200; Corbin Smith, who was third in the 110 hurdles; Tim Lee, who was third in the long jump and fourth in the 300 hurdles; Bailey Collins, who was third in the 800; Kobi Martindale, who was third in the shot put and fourth in the discus; Chase Angot, who was fourth in the 100 and fourth in the long jump; and Dague, who was fourth in the 400.

Caston also finished second in both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.

Caston girls, boys finish 4th at Cass County Meet: The Caston girls track team scored eight points and finished fourth out of four teams at the Cass County Meet at Logansport May 1.

Meanwhile, the Caston boys scored 39 points and also finished fourth.

In the girls meet, Ali Paul was the only Caston athlete to score in multiple events, taking third in the high jump and fifth in the long jump. Delaney Strasser was third in the 1,600. Bailey Turnpaugh was fifth in the 100.

Lewis Cass won the meet with 116 points.

In the boys meet, the only Caston individual champion was Austin Dague, who won the 3,200.

Brady Evans, Jake Paschen, Edison Byrum and Kobi Martindale all scored in multiple events.

Evans was second in the 110 hurdles, second in the 300 hurdles and third in the long jump. Paschen was third in the 200 and fifth in the 100. Byrum was second in the 1,600 and third in the 800. Martindale was fourth in both the shot put and discus.

The other Caston individual scorer was Corbin Smith, who was fifth in the 110 hurdles.

Caston also placed third in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.

Logansport won the title with 80 points, one more than runner-up Pioneer. Lewis Cass was third with 46 points.
