Baseball wins Hoosier North opener over LaVille

Caston 16, North Judson 0 (5 innings, Tuesday): Addison Zimpleman homered in three consecutive at-bats and also pitched a two-hit shutout for Caston in a Hoosier North road win over North Judson Tuesday.
Caston had 12 extra-base hits – six doubles and six homers – as a team.
Kinzie Mollenkopf also hit a pair of solo homers, and Maddi Smith went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, including a homer. Bailey Harness had two doubles and two RBIs, Annie Harsh had two hits and an RBI, and Isabel Scales also had two doubles.
Haley Logan singled and drove in two runs. Macee Hinderlider doubled and drove in a run. Makena Middleton added a hit.
Zimpleman walked two and struck out six.
Already leading 8-0, Caston scored eight more runs in the top of the fifth. They are 2-0 in the Hoosier North.

North White at Caston, canceled: The North White-Caston softball game scheduled for Monday was canceled due to inclement weather.
Caston 8-3, Peru 4-6 (Saturday): Caston and Peru split a doubleheader Saturday. Caston won the first game 8-4, and Peru won the second game 6-3.
In the first game, Addison Zimpleman went 3 for 4 with two singles and a double. Isabel Scales singled, homered and drove in two runs. Annie Harsh and Macee Hinderlider each had a hit and two RBIs. Kinzie Mollenkopf had an RBI. Caston also had five stolen bases.
Zimpleman pitched a seven-hitter with four walks and seven strikeouts. Only one of the runs she allowed was earned.
Scales had two doubles and an RBI in the second game. Maddi Smith had a hit and an RBI, and Hinderlider and Zimpleman had one hit each.
Caston scored two runs in the top of the first off Peru pitcher Jaylah Harlan but did not score again until the seventh.
Mollenkopf allowed six runs (three earned) in six innings and took the loss. She allowed six hits, walked three and struck out nine.

Caston 12, Twin Lakes 2 (Thursday): Addison Zimpleman and Isabel Scales each homered, and Kinzie Mollenkopf had two hits and three RBIs at the plate and also pitched a complete game in the circle to lead the visiting Lady Comets past Twin Lakes Thursday.
Zimpleman also had a single. Alexa Finke had a hit and two RBIs. Macee Hinderlider and Makena Middleton each had a hit and an RBI. Maddi Smith had an RBI. Bailey Harness and Annie Harsh each had a hit.
Mollenkopf allowed seven hits and two earned runs. She walked none and struck out nine.
Caston scored two runs in the top of the first and never trailed. Already leading 6-2 after six innings, they scored six more times in the seventh.

Caston 9, LaVille 7 (Tuesday): Pete DuVall had singled, doubled and homered and two RBIs, and Caston scored three runs in their last at-bat to take the lead and hold off visiting LaVille in their Hoosier North opener Tuesday.
Adam Rush’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth put Caston ahead for good. Joey Spin had a double and an RBI. Sam Smith doubled and walked twice. Caleb Stinson had a walk and an RBI.
Spin pitched a complete game, allowing 13 hits and seven earned runs. He walked none and struck out nine.
“Really proud of our guys battling tonight and coming up with a solid win in the conference opener,” Caston coach Blake Mollenkopf said in a statement. “Joey didn’t have his best stuff tonight but competed, making pitches when he needed to get the win on the mound moving to 2-0 on the season. Pete DuVall led us offensively, and Adam Rush had a big two-RBI single in the sixth. A lot of guys are putting in extra work, and it will continue to show and pay dividends.

Caston 18, North White 3 (5 innings, Thursday): Joey Spin had three singles and four RBIs, and Jackson Rentschler hit a three-run homer for the visiting Comets in a rout of sectional rival North White Thursday.
Pete DuVall allowed four hits and no earned runs in a complete game win on the mound. He walked two and struck out six. He also singled, doubled, walked twice and drove in two runs at the plate. Rentschler also walked twice and finished with four RBIs.
Preston Holderfield singled and drove in two runs. Caleb Stinson doubled, walked and drove in a run. Talon Zeider singled, walked twice and drove in a run. Sam Smith walked twice and scored twice.
Caston scored 10 times in the third inning to build a 12-0 lead.
“Pete DuVall gave us five solid innings in his first outing of the year. Proud of the way he competed,” Caston coach Blake Mollenkopf said in a statement. “We had a pair of errors defensively, but on a very windy night, our kids were solid for the most part. It is difficult to pitch and play defense on these types of nights, and I thought our kids showed some mental toughness getting through it.”

Boys golf
Caston has incomplete team at Pioneer Invite (Saturday): Caston fielded an incomplete team at the Pioneer Invitational at Pond View Golf Course in Star City.
A.J. Dague shot an 80, Colby Pugh had a 100, and Bailey Zimpleman had a 124 for the Comets.
Dague’s score was second among all individuals. Carroll (Flora)’s Porter Dick shot a 77 to claim medalist honors.
Carroll won the team title with a 373, 14 shots fewer than runner-up Bethany Christian.
