Caston sports briefs: Zimpleman homers twice in win over Northfield
Spin has 3 hits in loss to Peru; girls track wins, boys track 2nd on senior night

Caston 12, Northfield 0 (5 innings, Thursday): Addison Zimpleman homered twice and drove in four runs, and Makena Middleton doubled and drove in three runs for the
visiting Lady Comets (7-2) in a win over sectional rival and defending state champion Northfield Thursday.
Maddi Smith singled twice and drove in two runs, and Macee Hinderlider had two hits and an RBI. Isabel Scales also doubled and drove in a run.
Angel McVicker and Kinzie Mollenkopf each had a hit. Bailey Harness had an RBI.
Mollenkopf pitched a one-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts.
This was the teams’ first meeting since Northfield eliminated Caston in last year’s sectional semifinals.

Peru 9, Caston 3 (Thursday): Joey Spin went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and Sam Smith also had a hit and an RBI for Caston in a road loss to Peru Thursday.
Talon Zeider also had a hit and two runs scored for Caston.
Jackson Rentschler started and took the loss on the mound after allowing seven hits and seven runs (six earned) over five innings. He walked four, hit a batter and struck out seven.
Caston led 3-2 going into the bottom of the fifth before Peru scored five runs to take the lead for good.
Logan Gatliff had two singles and three RBIs at the plate and also struck out 13 in five innings on the mound for the win for Peru.

Tippecanoe Valley 188, Caston 228, North Miami 244 (Thursday): A.J. Dague fired a 44 to lead Caston as they finished second in a three-way match behind host Tippecanoe Valley and ahead of North Miami at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Thursday.
Colby Pugh added a 50, Bailey Zimpleman had a 64, and Lucas Graham had a 70.

Caston girls win, boys take 2nd in three-way meet: The Caston girls track team got wins from Delaney Strasser in the 800, Tayler Shafer in the shot put and Ali Paul in the long jump as they beat Culver and Elkhart Christian in a three-way meet at Caston Thursday.
Caston athletes finishing second in their events included Emma Stinson in the 100 hurdles and 400, Strasser in the 1,600, Breana Amezquita in the shot put, Paul in the high jump, Katie Hutsell in the 400 and Maddie Sprow in the 800.
Third-place finishers included Liz Pierce in the 100 hurdles, Amezquita in the 400 and Hutsell in the 200.
Stevanna Young had podium finishes in both the 800 and 3,200.
The 4 x 400 relay consisting of Stinson, Strasser, Paul and Hutsell also finished second.
In the boys meet, Caston placed second in the three-team meet. Garrison Hickle won both the discus and shot put, and Austin Dague won the 3,200.
Other Caston podium finishers included Josh Sullivan in the 100 and the long jump, Corbin Smith in both the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Chase Angot in the 100, Jan Aguilar-Mendez and Tanner Sutton in the 400, Dague in the 1,600 and D.J. Reyburn in the 1,600.
All three relay teams placed second.
