Comets fall to No. 1 Southwood in sectional semi, finish on 5-game skid

Sam Smith and Joey Spin had two hits, and Carter See tripled and scored a run, but Caston lost to top-ranked Southwood in a Class 1A, Sectional 52 semifinal at Caston Saturday.
Koby Thomas homered, and Mo Lloyd had three hits and an RBI for Southwood. Alex Farr had two hits and two RBIs, and Connor Rich and Logan Barley also had two hits each.
Kade Zeider pitched the first three innings for Caston and allowed nine hits and six runs (five earned). He walked none and struck out three.
Joey Spin allowed three unearned runs in three innings of relief. He walked one and fanned two.
Caston committed six errors that led to four unearned runs for Southwood.
Tristin Hayslett pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts for the Knights. who jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second and added four more runs in the third.
Caston lost their fifth straight game to finish 13-12. Southwood improved to 21-6.
The loss marked the final prep game for Caston seniors See, Jessie Rock-Wolf and Cam Kline.
