Culver at Winamac, ppd.: The Culver-Winamac volleyball match scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed. No makeup date has been set.
“We are awaiting COVID test results from a Winamac volleyball member,” Winamac coach Heather Kasten told RTC in an email. “Everything is up in the air right now. If the test is positive, we will not play this week and potentially quarantine volleyball members. If it is negative, we should be able to continue the week as scheduled.”
Morgan Township def. Winamac, 25-14, 25-9, 25-13 (Thursday): Alyssa Villanueva and McKenzie Hinz had four kills each for Winamac in a home loss to Morgan Township Thursday.
Kaya Campbell and Sydney Thompson had two aces each. Ella Gearhart had eight digs while Campbell had seven.
Campbell also had eight assists. Hinz had a block and 10 serves received.
Villanueva had 11 serves received.
Morgan Township is a five-time defending sectional champion in Class 1A. They are also the defending regional champion.
“Compared to Tuesday night (against Tippecanoe Valley), our girls were a little too comfortable with their new line up,” Winamac coach Heather Kasten said in a statement. “The intensity and focus from early in the week had passed, and that hurt us. There was one serve-receive rotation that we could not seem to get out of and dug ourselves a hole. Morgan Township was a strong team with lots of options and we let that get us down. Skills wise, I think we're right there, but still missing a couple key pieces.
“Bringing Maggie Smith and Aubrey Gearhart back next week will help put a few other girls in their home positions and bring some familiarity to our line up, as well as add some seniority to the court.”
