Softball
The Rochester softball team went 0-2 at the Jimtown tournament on April 27 to fall to 5-9 on the season. They lost to Jimtown 4-3 and to Peru 6-3 in pool play.
In the Peru game, Jadyn Field had two hits and an RBI, and Mylee Heinzmann had two hits. Aubrey Wilson tripled, Makhia Harding doubled, and Mia Howdeshell singled.
Brailyn Hunter took the loss in the circle after allowing six hits and six runs (five earned) in four innings. She walked three and struck out two.
Howdeshell then tossed three scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three.
Rochester cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fourth when Harding scored from third on a wild pitch. Wilson’s RBI single scoring Field in the fifth made it 6-3.
Rochester had runners on first and third with one out in the sixth, but Peru reliever Jaylah Harlan struck out Mia Howdeshell and Gabby Medina to retire the side.
The Lady Zs began the day with a loss to Jimtown on Allyson Hayes’ walk-off sacrifice fly in the seventh off Bria Rensberger that scored Kendal McPhee.
Both Hayes and McPhee had two RBIs each for Jimtown.
Wilson had two of Rochester’s five hits, and Field had a game-tying two-run double as part of a three-run sixth. Darah Strasser had an RBI bunt single before scoring later in the inning.
Hunter had a hit and a run scored.
Rensberger pitched a six-hitter while walking four and striking out eight. Rochester committed three errors, and one of Jimtown’s runs was unearned.
Jimtown built a 3-0 lead after two innings.
