Double trouble: Zebras fall to 2 defending state champs at Argos Invite

Argos 7, Rochester 0 (first round, Saturday)

Zionsville 8, Rochester 0 (third place, Saturday)

The Rochester boys soccer team lost to defending state champions Argos and Zionsville at the Argos Invitational Saturday to fall to 2-3 on the season.

RHS was coming off a 13-3 win over North Miami Thursday in which Zach Pickens scored a school-record seven goals and Wade Shafer had a school-record nine assists. Against Argos, they did not even have a shot on goal.

Michael Richard, Gabe Stone and Cam Markley scored twice each for the Dragons, the defending Class 1A state champs. Stone also had two assists. Markley and Nate Manikowski had one assist each.

Freshman keeper Parker Wallace had six saves for the Zebras.

Argos led 5-0 at halftime.

Pickens had a shot on goal in an 8-0 loss to Zionsville. Wallace had 19 saves.

Zionsville, who is currently ranked No. 4 in Class 3A and who won the 3A state title last year, scored four goals in each half. The Eagles were coming off a 2-1 loss to Class 2A, No. 11 NorthWood in the first round earlier Saturday.

RHS hosts Peru at 5 p.m. today and travels to conference and sectional rival Tippecanoe Valley at 5 p.m. Wednesday before hosting Caston at noon Saturday.
