DuVall’s shutout, Zeider’s 3 hits lift Caston to Game 1 win over Knox

Zeider fires CG, DuVall gets 2 RBIs as Comets complete sweep

Caston 4-5, Knox 0-3 (Saturday): Pete DuVall pitched a three-hit shutout with three walks and eight strikeouts, and Talon Zeider went 3 for 3 with two runs scored for the Caston baseball team in a 4-0 win over host Knox in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Jackson Rentschler also had a hit and two RBIs, and Gavin Mollenkopf and Noah Herd each had a hit and an RBI.

Caston scored two runs each in the first and third innings.

DuVall has not lost on the mound since the 2021 season.

In the second game, DuVall had two hits and two RBIs, and Noah Herd also had two hits and an RBI for Caston in a 5-3 win.

Gavin Mollenkopf also had two hits as part of Caston’s nine-hit attack. Rentschler had a hit, a walk and an RBI, and Zeider had a hit and a run scored. Caleb Stinson had an RBI. Edison Byrum had a hit.

Zeider pitched an eight-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.

Caston scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead for good at 3-1.

Caston improved to 2-1 in the Hoosier North.

Caston was the visiting team in Game 1 and the home team in Game 2.
