Jon Hutton was hired as the new volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Valley at a school board meeting Friday, according to a press release.

It will be Hutton’s second stint as Valley coach. He also coached the team from 1999-2009. He had been the coach at Plymouth.

“I am very excited to be returning to Tippecanoe Valley volleyball next year as the head coach,” Hutton said in a statement. “My first season here was in 1996 with Valley great Jon Parker working to build the program he had just taken over. I feel like there is a great culture here, and I am excited to be back being a part of it. I look forward to leading the Lady Vikings and taking the program to the next level. I think an important aspect is helping to create an environment to empower players to continue on the path to becoming confident young women.”

Hutton has been on the Valley faculty since 1996. He was also the Valley assistant principal from 2012-18.

“I have no doubt in my mind that he will help guide our program to new heights,” Valley athletic director Sam Sturtevant said in the press release. “I know he values his student-athletes and pushes them to be great on the court and outside the court. He is a positive coach, gets the most out of the kids, and a great relationship builder. He will do a great job leading this program.”

Valley went 15-14 overall and 3-6 in the Three Rivers Conference last fall. The season ended with a loss in four sets to Culver Academy in the sectional final.

Valley has never won a sectional championship in volleyball.
