IHSAA to sectional hosts in case of bad weather: Play semifinals, final Saturday

The IHSAA sent an email to athletic directors of boys basketball sectional host sites Thursday to play both the semifinal and final rounds of their sectionals Saturday in case of weather-related postponements on Friday.

“If neither game (6 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.) is played due to weather, the first recommendation is to push both games to Saturday morning and play in a current semistate format (10 a.m. and noon),” IHSAA assistant commissioner Brian Lewis wrote in the email. “The sectional championship would then be played Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. or 8 p.m.”

If the semifinal games could not be played Saturday morning, then the recommendation is to play semifinal games Saturday night and the sectional final on Monday.

If the semifinal games could not be played either Friday or Saturday, the IHSAA recommends the semifinals be played on Monday and the final on Tuesday.

Three RTC area teams are still alive in the tournament and scheduled to play Friday – Rochester, Culver and Argos.

  • Rochester will play Lewis Cass in a Class 2A, Sectional 36 semifinal at Rochester at approximately 7:30 p.m.

  • Culver will play Oregon-Davis in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at Triton at 6:30 p.m.

  • Argos will play Marquette Catholic in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at Triton at approximately 8 p.m.

The sectional final at Rochester is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The sectional final at Triton is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.
