The Rochester girls soccer team’s season-opening scoring drought reached four games after a 9-0 loss to sectional rival Trinity Greenlawn at the Brent Blacketor Memorial Sports Complex Saturday.
Taylor Navara had Rochester’s lone shot on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Mylee Heinzmann had 10 saves.
Trinity Greenlawn (6-0) is ranked No. 7 in Class 1A. They also have a win over five-time defending sectional champion Argos.
Argos will host the sectional from Oct. 2-7.
“Their passing, their communication and their intensity,” Rochester coach Chantal Rensberger said when asked what stands out about Trinity Greenlawn. “They can pass. They had one, two, three, four, five passes, bam, back of the net. … I mean, they’re just ideally a team that you want to admire.
“They’re good. And all 11 are good. It wasn’t just like they had one or two studs. They had 11 studs. And anytime they rotated, they were just as good as the ones they pulled out.”
Trinity Greenlawn led 6-0 at halftime. They scored three times in the second half to end the game per the IHSAA Mercy Rule.
“I saw us put some balls up and over that I really liked,” Rensberger said. “But no, the possession game was probably 97 percent Trinity and us kind of chasing our tail trying to catch up with them. … I’m not upset with the girls’ effort. It’s just more or less some basic simplicity stuff – winning the ball out of the air, not walking as much, communication. It’s just things a lot of these girls don’t quite understand yet, but they’ll get there.”
