Thomas notches double eagle on No. 12; Huizar breaks Lady Warrior mark

The Rochester girls golf team broke a school record for nine holes in a 153-197 win over Winamac on the back nine at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Thursday. The Lady Zs will play at the Warsaw Invitational at Rozella Ford Golf Club at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Rochester 153, Winamac 197 (Thursday): The Rochester girls golf team broke the nine-hole school record in a home win over sectional rival Winamac at Round Barn Golf Club Thursday.
Ava Thomas earned medalist honors with a 2-under-par 34. She had a double eagle on the par-5 12th hole, seven pars and one bogey.
Olivia Bailey added a 35, Payton Moore had a 40, Lexi Haughs had a 44, and Ella McCarter had a 65.
Bailey’s round included back-to-back birdies on Nos. 11 and 12, both of which are par-5s. She also had six pars and one bogey. Moore’s round included six pars. Haughs had a birdie on the par-4 15th hole.
The previous school record was a 160, which was set in 2012. Rochester qualified for the state finals in 2012.
Winamac’s Bianca Huizar shot a 1-under-par 35 to break her school mark for nine holes. Her round included birdies on Nos. 12, 16 and 18.
Huizar has already broken the Winamac school record for 18 holes twice this season, shooting a 78 at the Rensselaer Invitational on Aug. 1 and bettering that with a 77 at the Kankakee Valley Invitational on Aug. 7.
Other Winamac scores included Olivia Link’s 47, Sierra Haschel’s 56, Ashlynn Jennings’ 59 and Maggie Smith’s 62.
