Pioneer seniors Ezra Lewellen and Addai Lewellen combined for six individual sectional championships at the Kokomo sectional last week and contributed 66 of the team’s 69 team points.
Ezra Lewellen will be the No. 1 seed in the 400 meters going into the regional. He also won sectional titles in the 100 and 110 hurdles.
Addai Lewellen will be the No. 1 seed going into the long jump. He also won sectional titles in the 200 and 300 hurdles. He finished third in the 100 race that was won by his brother.
Pioneer finished fourth in the 13-team field. Western won the sectional with 126 points.
Ezra Lewellen won the sectional in the 100 meters in 11.05 seconds. Kokomo’s Plez Lawrence ran an 11.22 and was second. Addai Lewellen ran an 11.24 to qualify for the regional.
Ezra Lewellen also won the 110 hurdles in 15.50 seconds and broke the 50-second mark in the 400 in winning in 49.79 seconds.
Ezra Lewellen will also be the No. 2 seed at the regional in the 100 behind Elkhart’s Derrick Woods and the No. 3 seed in the hurdles behind Penn’s Vincent Nierzwicki-Trifilett and Elkhart’s Jaqaveion Echols.
Addai Lewellen ran a 22.68 in the 200 and held off Lawrence, who ran a 22.81.
His time of 41.02 seconds in the 300 hurdles was 1.21 seconds faster than runner-up Taylor Rathbun of Western.
He also soared 22-10 ½ in the long jump. The jump was both a personal best and six-and-a-quarter inches longer than the state qualifying standard of 22-4 ¼. Runner-up Ta’Shy Stewart, who jumped 21-0 ¼, was the only competitor within two feet of Addai Lewellen.
Addai Lewellen will be the No. 8 seed in the 100 and the No. 4 seed in both the 200 and 300 hurdles. Woods is the No. 1 seed in the 200, and Nierzwicki-Trifilett is the No. 1 seed in the 300 hurdles.
Freshman Jackson Baker was at least partially responsible for the Panthers’ other three points. He was eighth in the 1,600 meters and ran the anchor leg on the 4 x 400 relay team that finished seventh.
Tyler Wright, Elijah Rans and Ryan Adams ran the other three relay legs.
The top three individuals in each event automatically qualify for the regional.
