Rochester 14, Lewis Cass 3 (5 innings, Thursday): Gabby Medina singled and doubled and had four RBIs, and Aubrey Wilson had a double and two RBIs for the visiting Lady Zs as they beat conference and sectional rival Lewis Cass to finish in second place in the Three Rivers Conference Thursday.
Mylee Heinzmann had two hits and an RBI, and Darah Strasser had a hit and an RBI. Bria Rensberger singled and walked three times. Brailyn Hunter had two RBIs. Makhia Harding had a single.
Mia Howdeshell pitched a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Rochester committed four errors which led to two unearned runs for Lewis Cass.
Lewis Cass pitchers walked nine and hit two batters while Howdeshell walked only one.
Medina singled home two runs top open the scoring in the second. Wilson’s fielder’s choice grounder made it 3-0, and Strasser reached on an error to make it 4-0.
Rochester scored six more runs in the third. Rensberger scored on a wild pitch, Medina doubled home two runs, Wilson doubled in a run, Wilson scored on a wild pitch, and Hunter got an RBI on a fielder’s choice.
Heinzmann had an RBI single, Keyton Doran scored on an error, Strasser had an RBI single, and Hunter had an RBI groundout in the Lady Zs’ four-run fourth.
Howdeshell struck out Kami Silcox with the bases loaded to end the game.
Lewis Cass’ Amma Fitzhugh, who has a 1.90 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 70 innings, did not pitch. Rensberger, who has a 1.11 ERA and 141 strikeouts in 88 ⅓ innings, also did not pitch.
The teams will meet again at 7 p.m. Monday at Fansler Field in a Class 2A, Sectional 37 quarterfinal. Lewis Cass is the defending sectional champion.
In other TRC action Thursday, Southwood blanked Wabash 5-0 to clinch the TRC outright with an 8-1 record. Rochester finished 7-2.
