Pioneer’s enrollment ranking up; could teams be moving to 2A?

Pioneer’s enrollment rank moved up from No. 309 in the last cycle three years ago to No. 290 now, according to figures the IHSAA released Wednesday that will be relied upon for realignment from the 2022-24 school years.

With approximately 100 schools in each class for the four-class sports of volleyball, girls basketball, boys basketball, softball and baseball, it might indicate that Pioneer will be moving up to Class 2A in those sports.

Pioneer is already in Class 2A for girls basketball and softball based on the IHSAA Success Factor.

Pioneer won 15 consecutive volleyball sectional titles from 2006-20 in Class 1A.

Among other area schools:

  • Tippecanoe Valley’s enrollment is 561. Their enrollment rank went up from No. 193 to No. 178.

  • Rochester’s enrollment is 495. Their enrollment rank went up from No. 215 to No. 202.

  • Culver’s enrollment is 255. Their enrollment rank went up from No. 346 to No. 325.

  • Caston’s enrollment is 234. Their enrollment rank went up from No. 365 to No. 341.

  • Argos’ enrollment is 192. Their enrollment rank is unchanged at No. 361.

The IHSAA will realign sectionals for all class sports on May 3.

Girls and boys soccer have three classes each. Football has six classes.
