Triton puts 3 in double figures, ends skid vs. Dragons to win sectional

Triton 59, Argos 43 (Saturday): Michael Richard scored a game-high 20 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, but Argos lost to Triton in the Class 1A, Sectional 50 final at Culver’s John R. Nelson Gymnasium Saturday.
Jake Stults had seven points, and Teddy Redinger hit a pair of 3-pointers and had six.
Tyson Yates scored eight of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter for Triton. John Gardner added 15 points, and Ashton Oviedo had 14. Oviedo also had six assists.
Argos committed 17 turnovers as compared to Triton’s nine. Argos went one for five from the foul line while Triton went 11 for 14.
Already leading 22-16 at halftime, Triton outscored Argos 21-6 in the third quarter.
Argos defeated Triton 51-39 in their regular season meeting on Feb. 20 at Argos, and they had won five of the previous six meetings, including wins over the Trojans in the 2019 and 2020 sectional finals.
Triton improved to 19-5. They won their three sectional games by an average margin of 28 points per game.
Argos finished 18-6. Caden Nifong and Zak Heiman graduate, but Argos has no senior starters.
