Rochester qualifies both DMRs for Hoosier State Relays, will join Seward in the 3,200

The Rochester girls and boys track teams each qualified their distance medley relay team for the Hoosier State Relays at Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington Saturday.

The teams qualified based on their finishes at the Indiana Wesleyan University Qualifier No. 3, which Marion High School hosted on March 11.

The girls team ran a 13:56.89 and placed third. The boys team ran an 11:37.78 and took fourth.

The distance medley relay consists of a 1,200-meter leg, a 400-meter leg, an 800-meter leg and a 1,600-meter leg. It’s an event unique to indoor meets.

The Rochester girls distance medley relay consists of Araceli Ochoa in the 1,200, Audrey Wagner in the 400, Kendyll Bradley in the 800, and Zoe Seward in the 1,600.

The boys team includes Wes Steininger in the 1,200, Maddox Jewell in the 400, R.J. Keranko in the 800, and Chris Rohr in the 1,600.

In addition, senior Zoe Seward will run the 3,200 meters at the Hoosier State Relays. Seward qualified seventh in 11:31.35, which she ran at an indoor meet at Purdue’s Lambert Fieldhouse on March 4.

Rochester was one of 27 schools to compete at the Indiana Wesleyan meet.

“The team’s chief objective was to qualify both distance medley relay teams for the state finals,” Rochester coach Ryan Helt said in a statement. “Chris Rohr and Zoe Seward, standouts from (the Purdue meet), once again were the foundation the lineups were built around this weekend. Audrey Wagner looked more confident and competitive in both of her relays, indicating she made crucial adjustments … those adjustments should pay off for the DMR at the finals.”
