Rochester sports briefs: Huffman stars in baseball win over Whitko

Boys golf wins TRC 3-way over Wabash, Peru

Rochester 12, Whitko 9 (Thursday): Aaron Huffman singled, doubled and drove in two

runs at the plate and allowed only one unearned run in four innings on the mound for the Zebras in a win over conference and sectional rival Whitko Thursday at Bob Copeland Field.

Tarick McGlothin had two hits, two walks and two RBIs, and Ethan Medina and Hunter Campbell also had two hits and two RBIs each for the Zebras, who were the visiting team even though the game was played on their home field. Tanner Reinartz also had a double, two walks and two RBIs.

Luke Hunting and Colton Ferverda also had two hits each as part of Rochester’s 14-hit attack. Brayden Zink had a single, two walks and an RBI.

Huffman allowed six hits but no earned runs. He walked none and struck out seven. Zink pitched two innings, and Campbell got the final three outs in the seventh.

Rochester committed seven errors that led to four unearned runs for Whitko.

Whitko scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh after Rochester built a 12-3 lead.

This was the teams’ first meeting since Rochester defeated Whitko in last year’s sectional final.

The game was scheduled for Wednesday but postponed due to wet grounds and moved to Rochester. Rochester’s scheduled game against Eastern (Greentown) was canceled.

Rochester is 6-0, 1-0 TRC. They will travel to Oregon-Davis for a doubleheader Saturday. Their next conference game is at Tippecanoe Valley at 5 p.m. Monday.

Wesley Meadows tied for medalist honors with a 45 in a win in a three-way match against conference rivals Wabash and host Peru at Rock Hollow Golf Club Wednesday.

Drew Strasser added a 46, Noah Riffle had a 54, and Dryden Vance had a 56.

JV tourney at Plymouth canceled: The JV boys golf tournament scheduled for Pretty Lake Golf Club in Plymouth Saturday was canceled.

Rochester was among the teams scheduled to compete.
