Swimming
Makenna Beall won the 500 freestyle and was second in the 200 freestyle for the Rochester girls swimming team at the Warsaw Invitational Dec. 5, helping RHS place fourth in the seven-team field.
Beall, a junior, won the 500 freestyle in 5:35.57, which was just under 13 seconds faster than Warsaw junior Gracie Willig.
Beall lost the 200 freestyle to Manchester’s Josie Briner by 0.07 seconds.
Other RHS swimmers finishing in the top eight in their events included Elena Bode, who was third in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 individual medley; Kendyll Bradley, who was fifth in the 100 freestyle; and Ellie Shank, who was sixth in the 500 freestyle race won by Beall.
Shank, Beall, Bradley and Bode swam the 400 freestyle relay and claimed third in 4:19.41 and swam the 200 medley relay and finished sixth in 2:16.96.
RHS also placed third out of seven teams in the Warsaw Invitational boys meet.
The top RHS finisher was freshman Jake Seuferer, who was second in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle. Layne Backus also finished in the top eight in multiple events, placing third in the 100 freestyle and sixth in the 50 freestyle.
Other RHS swimmers finishing in the top eight in their event included Ethan Brady and Dylan Steininger, who were third and sixth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke; Jake Freeman, who was seventh in the 200 freestyle; Wes Steininger, who was seventh in the 100 butterfly; and Peyton Hiatt, who was eighth in the 100 freestyle.
The 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays finished third while the 200 freestyle relay claimed fourth. Seuferer, Brady, Wes Steininger and Dylan Steininger comprised the medley relay. Backus joined Seuferer and the Steininger brothers on the 400 freestyle relay. Brady, Backus, Freeman and Hiatt comprised the 200 freestyle relay team.
RHS also entered a second team in the 400 freestyle relay, and the team of Freeman, Hiatt, Tanner Reese and Lane Shank placed fifth.

Makenna Beall won three blue ribbons as the Lady Zs tied Lewis Cass in a road dual meet on Nov. 30.
Beall won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly and also swam a leg on the victorious 400 freestyle relay team. Other RHS individual event winners included Elena Bode in the 200 freestyle, Zoe Seward in the 100 freestyle and Ellie Shank in the 500 freestyle.
Shank, Seward, Beall and Bode helped RHS earn a tie for the meet by winning the 400 freestyle.
In the boys meet, Jake Seuferer and Dylan Steininger won four blue ribbons each and led RHS to the win. Seuferer won both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Steininger won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Anthony Peterson won the 100 breaststroke.
Wes Steininger joined Seuferer, Dylan Steininger and Peterson on the victorious 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

RHS boys swimming goes 1-3 at Goshen DecaDual (Nov. 24): The Rochester boys swimming team went 1-4 at the Goshen DecaDuals Nov. 24. They lost 137-34 to NorthWood, lost 147-26 to Goshen, beat DeKalb 60-56 and lost to Angola 137-26.
Dylan Steininger was sixth in both the 200 and 500 freestyles. Wes Steininger was sixth in the 200 individual medley and eighth in the 100 butterfly.
Angola went 4-0 to win the meet.

RHS girls go 1-3 at Goshen DecaDuals (Nov. 21): The Rochester girls swimming team went 1-3 at the Goshen DecaDuals Nov. 21. They beat NorthWood 104-53, lost to Goshen 109-70, lost to DeKalb 81-79 and lost to Angola 108-59.
Makenna Beall starred for RHS, winning both the 200 individual medley in 2:20.69 and the 500 freestyle in 5:43.01. She was the only swimmer on any of the five teams to win multiple individual events.
Other RHS swimmers finishing in the top eight included Elena Bode, who was third in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly; Kendyll Bradley, who was fifth in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 freestyle; Zoe Seward, who was eighth in the 50 freestyle and tied for third in the 100 backstroke; Molly Vance-Gruss, who was tied for third with Seward in the 100 backstroke; and Macie Nelson, who was seventh in the 100 breaststroke.
The top RHS relay was the 400 freestyle relay, which swam a 4:25.33 and finished second to Goshen. The team consisted of Beall, Seward, Bella Riffle and Bode.
