Holloway, Deming, Beck all win titles

The Rochester wrestling team scored 173.5 points and finished second out of 16 teams at the North Montgomery Holiday Tournament Wednesday.
That came one day after Rochester went 4-1 and finished in fifth place at the duals portion of the two-day event.
Western went 5-0 to win the duals portion of the tournament on Dec. 28 and followed it up by winning the individual tournament with 201.5 points.
Ethan Holloway (120), Alex Deming (195) and Brady Beck (220) all won weight class titles.
Gavin McKee (160) and Marshall Fishback (HWT) finished second in their respective weight classes. Like McKee and Fishback, Wyatt Davis (113) also went 8-1 and took third.
Aaron Swango (126) went 6-3 and was fourth, Greyson Gard (152) went 5-5 and was fifth, and Eli Swango (170) went 3-7 and was sixth.
Holloway stayed undefeated (24-0) on the season. He capped off his tournament with a 6-2 win over Tye Linser of Western in the championship match. Holloway had also beaten Linser 5-4 in a dual meet at Western on Dec. 22. Linser was the only opponent of Holloway’s who even saw the second period, much less the third period. Holloway’s other six wins were by first period fall, and four of the six falls occurred in less than a minute.
Deming improved to 24-1. He pinned Nathan Sedano of Fort Wayne South Side and Brock Higgins of West Vigo to reach the semifinals before winning an 8-2 decision over Josh McKelvin of Harrison and a 4-1 decision over Noblesville’s Austin Hastings in the final.
Beck went 9-0 for the tournament and is 23-1 for the season. He shut out Whiteland’s Jackarrey Oliver 4-0, tech falled Cole Chicoine 17-1 in the semifinals and major decisioned Rensselaer’s Jordan Cree 15-1 in the final. Cree came into his match against Beck with a 27-2 record.
Fishback lost a 5-4 decision to North Central (Indianapolis)’s Makhi Watts 5-4 in the final. The loss was Fishback’s first in a regular season match in two years and dropped his record to 23-1.
Fishback received a bye and pinned West Vigo’s Region Hendricks to reach the semifinals. He then edged Pendleton Heights’ Derek Lowder 1-0 to earn a bout with Watts.
McKee lost by fall in 3:31 to Western’s Deaglan Pleak in the final to drop his record to 20-4. That came after falls over Warren Central’s Ryan Gibson and Rensselaer’s Ryan Crews.
Davis is 12-2 with both losses against Western’s Tanner Tishner, who is ranked No. 5 at 113 per indianamat.com. Tishner beat Davis 18-6 in the semifinals this time, but Davis rebounded to earn first-period falls over North Putnam’s George Selmeister and Rensselaer’s Kolton Ploughe to finish third.
Rochester began the duals on Dec. 28 with a 63-7 win over Greencastle and a 49-25 win over McCutcheon. A 38-35 loss to Warren Central knocked them out of championship contention, but the Zebras bounced back to beat Harrison 48-27 in the consolation bracket and Whiteland 45-34 in the fifth-place match.
