Rochester senior Jake Seuferer has signed with Indiana University Kokomo to continue his academic and baseball careers.
Seuferer has been Rochester’s catcher since beginning his prep career in the spring of 2021.
“It’s close to home, and I really love the city,” Seuferer said when asked why he picked IUK. “I’m used to it, and I played for Kokomo as a travel ball team for the past two years, and I’m going to play for them this summer.”
Seuferer also said he is familiar with many of the players who will be his teammates through travel ball, and he is also familiar with the highly regarded Kokomo Municipal Stadium through travel ball.
He cited Don Andrews, his travel ball coach, as crucial to his development. Andrews picked him for his Post 6 team 19-and-under team when Seuferer was only 16.
Seuferer has also hit .295 with a .780 OPS the previous three seasons while catching most every inning of every game for coach Cory Good’s Zebras.
Rochester won a sectional title during Seuferer’s freshman season in 2021.
Drew Brantley, a 2011 Western High School grad, has been the IU Kokomo coach since July 2021. Seuferer said Brantley saw him play over the summer.
Brantley eventually offered while Seuferer was taking a campus tour.
“He’s very knowledgeable," Seuferer said. “And then, he’s a guy you can’t dislike. I love him. … He’s seen what I can do, and he thinks I can do better. Hopefully, I can move up as a player, and he can bring me to the next level and make me an even better player.”
