Mellott scores 18, Scorsone, Moriarty also reach double figures

Girls basketball

Tippecanoe Valley 67, Mishawaka Marian 54 (Saturday): Kaydence Mellott drilled three 3-pointers and scored 18 points, and Millie Scorsone came off the bench to score 14 points and grab six rebounds to lead the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball team past No. 8 Mishawaka Marian in a Class 3A regional at Jimtown Saturday.

Molly Moriarty made all four of her free throws and added 11 points.

The regional title is Valley’s first since 2015 and just their second in school history.

Chesnee Miller made all three of her field goal attempts and added eight points, and Gaby Gonzalez added six off the bench. Macy Petersen had five, Lily Ault had three, and Kelsey Cox had two.

Valley trailed 16-14 after one quarter but pulled ahead 35-31 at halftime. They extended the lead to 51-40 after three quarters.

Mishawaka Marian has never won a girls basketball regional.
