Valley’s Miller shoots 80, advances to regional in playoff

Vikings shoot 347, finish 6th; Culver shoots 412, places 10th

Valley senior Greg Miller shot an 80 to finish third among individuals on non-advancing teams and advance to the regional, which will be held at Stonehenge Golf Club in Winona Lake Thursday. Miller is the first Valley player to advance since Bryce Zimpleman in 2014.

Tippecanoe Valley senior Greg Miller shot an 80 at the Warsaw boys golf sectional at Rozella Ford Golf Club Friday to advance to the regional as an individual.

Valley finished sixth out of 12 teams with a 347, but Miller moved on after defeating Huntington North’s Cole Collins in a sudden death playoff. Wawasee’s Vaughn Dyson (78) and Preston Scherer (79) also advanced as individuals.

Warsaw won the team title with a 313. Northfield (318) and Culver Academy (319) also advanced by finishing in the top three.

Northfield’s Tyson Baer was the medalist with a 71. Baer was also the Three Rivers Conference medalist at Rozella Ford with a 72 on May 13.

Warsaw will also host the regional at Stonehenge Golf Club in Winona Lake at 8 a.m. Thursday.

In addition to Miller, Wes Parker shot an 87, Ethan Young had an 88, Eli Love had a 92, and Nash Bouse had a 95.

Miller is the first Valley player to advance to the boys golf regional since Bryce Zimpleman in 2014. His round included a birdie on No. 16.

The other area team at the sectional was Culver, who took 10th with a 412. Steven Pugh led the Cavaliers with an 89, Rylan Voter had a 96, David Hite had a 110, Aleks Stacy had a 117, and Jason Cadle withdrew.
