Valley shut out twice at Culver Academy tourney

Culver Academy 10, Valley 0 (5 innings, third-place game, May 13)

Boone Grove 10, Tippecanoe Valley 0 (semifinals, May 13)

Cody Smith, Noah Prater and Annikan Pettit each had a hit, but Valley lost in five innings to Culver Academy in the third-place game at the Culver Academy tournament on May 13.

Taylor Wallis pitched three innings for the Vikings and allowed four hits and seven runs (six earned) in three innings. He walked three, hit two batters and struck out two.

Wes Haines and Cody Smith combined to allow four hits and three runs (one earned) in one inning of relief.

Connor Pumphrey pitched a three-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts for Culver Academy.

Culver Academy scored in all five innings in which they batted.

Prater, Cameron Manuel, Dallas Martin and Pettit each had a single, but the Valley baseball team fell to Boone Grove in the first round.

Prater took the loss on the mound after allowing five runs in 3 ⅔ innings. He allowed six hits and six walks while striking out two. Martin pitched the final 3 ⅓ innings and allowed five hits and five runs (three earned). He walked three and struck out two.

Boone Grove scored four runs in both the second and fifth innings.

Columbia City won the tournament, beating Culver Academy 11-5 in the first round and Boone Grove 6-5 in the championship game.

Manuel K’s 9, adds RBI as Valley baseball beats Northfield

Tippecanoe Valley 5, Northfield 2 (May 15): Cameron Manuel pitched a six-hitter and added a hit and an RBI at the plate for the host Vikings in a Three Rivers Conference win over Northfield on May 15.

Cody Smith had a single and two RBIs, and Evan Myers had a single and a double. Markus Bernicky had a double, and Annikan Pettit had a single.

Bobby Burke had two stolen bases, and Bernicky and Manuel had one each.

Manuel allowed one earned run. He walked three and struck out nine in outdueling Northfield’s Maddux Daniels.

Valley improved to 6-2 in the TRC.

Valley scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Northfield scored in the third, but Valley scored two more runs in the fourth to go up 4-1.
