Valley sports briefs: Triton rallies in 2nd half to beat Vikings

Perkins scores 10, grabs 7 boards in loss

Boys basketball

Triton 49, Tippecanoe Valley 35 (Friday): Dawson Perkins scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but the visiting Vikings were held to just five points in the third quarter in a loss to Triton Friday.

Nolan Cumberland hit a pair of 3-pointers and had eight. Paul Leasure had seven.

Ashton Oviedo and Tyson Yates had nine points each, and Cole Shively had eight for Triton.

Valley committed 17 turnovers as compared to Triton’s nine. Valley also made just eight of 18 free throws.

Valley led 21-15 at halftime, but Triton came back to lead 33-26 after three quarters.

Valley coach Chad Patrick said “the final score does not reflect the story of the game” in a statement.

“Cold shooting from the field and free throw line and 11 turnovers in the second half did the Vikings in,” Patrick added.

Triton also won the JV game 28-19. Landon Walters scored six for the Valley JV.

Mackaylie Costello scored 12 points to lead the Valley Middle School eighth-graders past Rochester Tuesday. Bailey Bussard added four, and Carlee Snyder, Lydia Craig, Emma Patrick and Avery Wagoner had two each.


Valley also won the seventh grade game 29-4. No information was provided for the Valley seventh-graders.

No Rochester information was provided for either game.

TVMS 30, Manchester 22 (8th grade, Saturday)

TVMS 31, Manchester 23 (7th grade, Saturday)

Mackaylie Costello scored 11 points, and Avery Wagoner added eight for the TVMS eighth-graders in a win over Manchester Saturday. Lydia Craig contributed four, Carlee Snyder had three, and Bailey Bussard and Emma Patrick had two each.

TVMS also prevailed in the seventh grade game behind Gaby Gonzalez’s 12 points,, eight rebounds and seven steals. Dalynne Bussard had nine points, seven rebounds and three steals. Betty Shepherd had six points and four steals, and Maci Parker had four points, six rebounds and a steal. Karley Hallstrom had a steal.
