Colvin finishes 3rd, leads Caston boys to 2nd-place finish

Cross-country
Led by junior Kate Collins, the Winamac girls cross-country team won the Caston Invitational Saturday.
Winamac topped a field of 13 teams. Collins was second in a field of 88 runners in 20:44. Carroll (Flora)’s Chloe Goodrich won the meet in 20:11.
Collins was one of four Winamac runners to finish in the top 10. Freshmen Maggie Smith and Kelsey Wegner were sixth and seventh, respectively, in 21:23 and 21:26, respectively. Junior Alexis Sheets was 10th in 21:40. Kingsley Kroft was 26th in 23:51.
Pioneer was sixth with 174 points. Freshman Violet Montgomery was third overall behind Goodrich and Collins in 20:47.
Macee Baker (28th place, 24:08) and Kylie Farris (30th, 24:16) also had top 30 finishes.
Caston was seventh with 177 points. Sophomore Delaney Strasser was the Lady Comet frontrunner in 23:20, which was good for 22nd place.
Winamac had 50 points, eight fewer than runner-up Lewis Cass.
In the boys race, Caston’s Micah Colvin, who won the Cass County meet one week earlier, was third overall out of 90 runners after running a 17:43.
South Bend Adams’ William Neubauer (16:25) and Dylan Hockx (17:13) finished 1-2 and led the Eagles to the team title with 33 points.
Caston was second in the 13-team field with 100 points, and Pioneer was ninth with 197.
Caston’s Austin Dague was seventh overall in 18:24, and Edison Byrum was 11th in 18:44.
Pioneer’s top two runners were freshmen. Carson Meyer was 23rd overall in 19:27, and Jackson Baker was 27th overall in 19:39.
Jack McIntire, who was Argos’ lone runner, was 18th overall in 19:15. Winamac and Culver also fielded incomplete teams.
Spectators and media were not allowed to attend due to coronavirus-related precautions.
