Winamac 11, Caston 6 (Thursday): Noah Herd had two of Caston’s three hits and an RBI, but Winamac scored five runs in the top of the seventh to break a 6-6 tie and beat host Caston in the first game of a Hoosier North two-game series Thursday.
Gavin Mollenkopf doubled for Caston’s other hit. He also had a walk and an RBI.
Preston Holderfield walked and was hit by two pitches and had two RBIs.
Pete DuVall walked three times and scored a run, and Jackson Rentschler walked twice and scored a run.
DuVall started and allowed seven hits and five runs (two earned) over five innings. He walked none, hit a batter and fanned five. Talon Zeider relieved and allowed four hits and six runs (five earned) in 1 ⅓ innings. He walked one and struck out two. Mollenkopf got the final two outs in the seventh and allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two.
Winamac won despite their pitchers walking nine and hitting three batters.
Cash Roth had two singles and a double and an RBI for Winamac. Wyatt Wheeler singled and tripled and drove in two runs. Conner Burton also had two RBIs.
Caston committed five errors that led to four unearned runs for Winamac.
