Barenie has only Argos hit in sectional loss to Triton

Triton 30, Argos 0 (5 innings, Wednesday): Willie Barenie had Argos’ only hit in a shutout loss to No. 3 Triton in a Class 1A, Sectional 51 quarterfinal at South Central (Union Mills) Wednesday.

Ioan Petz also walked twice for the Dragons, who finished 0-11.

Barenie took the loss, pitching 1 ⅓ innings and allowing 13 hits and 18 runs (six earned) while walking one, hitting a batter and striking out three. Petz relieved and pitched 1 ⅓ innings and allowed nine hits and nine runs (all earned) while walking one and striking out one.

Zayne Ruby finished, pitching 2 ⅓ innings and allowing four hits and three runs (none earned) while walking two, hitting two batters and striking out two.

Argos committed 11 errors that led to 15 unearned runs for Triton.

Levi McFarland pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts for Triton. He threw 73 pitches, which means he will be eligible to pitch again in a game as soon as Saturday. McFarland also had three hits and three RBIs at the plate.

Sixteen different Triton players batted. Triton did not score after the third inning.

Triton outscored Argos 71-1 in three meetings this season.

Triton will play North Judson, who received a bye, at 11 a.m. Eastern Saturday in the semifinals.
