Boys basketball

Six area players were selected first-team all-Hoosier North in voting done by the conference’s coaches and released to the media Tuesday.

In addition, four others were named honorable mention.

The area players making the first team included Caston’s Lane Hook and Logan Mollenkopf, Winamac’s Brendan Hines and Will Malchow, Pioneer’s Aidan Quillen and Argos’ Luke Stults.

Caston’s Reed Sommers, Winamac’s Justin Potthoff, Pioneer’s Micah Rans and Culver’s Braylon Jackson were the honorable mention picks.

Hook averaged 13.5 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game to go with 1.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Mollenkopf averaged a team-best 14.5 points along with 4.5 rpg, 2 apg and 1.7 spg.

Malchow led Winamac with 13.1 ppg and 4.6 rpg. He also averaged 1.4 apg and 1.1 spg. Hines averaged 11.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3 apg and a team-high 2.2 spg.

Quillen, a senior and a move-in from Western, led Pioneer with 10.9 ppg, and he also averaged 2 rpg, 3 apg and 1.7 spg.

Stults led Argos with 21.0 ppg and 8.6 rpg to go with 1.8 apg and 1.2 spg.

Sommers averaged 6.8 ppg and a team-high 3 apg for Caston. Potthoff averaged 10.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 2.4 apg. Rans averaged 7.2 ppg and a team-high 1.7 spg. Jackson, a freshman guard, led the Cavaliers with 7.3 ppg.

Triton’s Gage Riffle was named conference MVP.
