Fajardo scores twice, helps Argos win 18th sectional

Argos 5, Caston 0 (Saturday): Yahir Fajardo scored twice, and Kenyan Beldon had a goal and an assist for the Dragons in a win over Caston in the Class 1A, Sectional 36 final at Argos Saturday.

Keagan Stanley and Sawyer Crace also scored for No. 12 Argos, who improved to 12-4-2. Carter Bauman, Ayden VanDerWeele and Ioan Petz also had assists.

Both Crace and Angelo McMillen split time in goal. McMillen had one save.

Argos had a 17-1 advantage in shots on goal. They outscored their opponents 7-0 in three sectional games.

Argos led 3-0 at halftime. Stanley and Crace scored within the first eight minutes of the second half as the lead swelled to five.

Argos also beat Caston 5-0 in their regular season meeting Aug. 23.

Argos won its 34th sectional overall and its 18th since the IHSAA began to oversee the state tournament in 1994. Argos has won the sectional 13 times in 15 years since the IHSAA went to a multi-class state tournament format in 2011.

Argos coach Todd VanDerWeele has won 12 sectionals as coach.

No. 12 Argos will travel to No. 2 Fort Wayne Blackhawk for a regional semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
