Girls basketball
Caston 58, South Newton 17 (Friday): Addison Zimpleman outscored the entire South Newton team with 22 points, and the Caston girls basketball team held South Newton to two first-half points in a rout in a Class 1A, Sectional 52 semifinal at South Newton Friday.
Macee Hinderlider added 12 points, and Madi Douglass had 11. Hinderlider and Douglass also combined for 11 steals.
Caston top scorer Isabel Scales was held to two points, but it mattered little as Caston assumed a 41-2 halftime lead.
Caston also made twice as many free throws (16) as South Newton attempted (8).
Caston improved to 20-3 and will play Tri-County in the sectional final at 7 p.m. tonight. Caston lost to Tri-County 47-42 in their regular season meeting at Caston on Jan. 11.
Tri-County eliminated North White 39-19 in the other semifinal.
