Culver’s season ends with shutout loss to Triton

Carroll (Flora) 49, Caston 6 (Friday): Gavin Mollenkopf threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to Landen Rigney in the fourth quarter, but the Caston football team lost to host Carroll in a Class 1A, Sectional 43 semifinal Friday.
Caston had 111 yards of offense. Rigney also led Caston in rushing with 17 yards on four carries, but Caston had just 26 yards rushing total.
Mollenkopf threw for 79 yards. Grant Yadon also had six yards passing.
Kyle Roudebush had two receptions for 13 yards.
On defense, Mollenkopf and Roudebush tied for team-high honors with six tackles. Mollenkopf also recovered a fumble.
Yadon, Rigney, Ashton Bowyer and Gage Minniear had five tackles each. Minniear also had a pass defended.
Levi Martin had four tackles, Pete DuVall and Brody Brewer had three tackles each, and Lance Hanna had two tackles.
Carroll led 7-0 after one quarter and 35-0 at halftime. The second half was played with a running clock per the IHSAA mercy rule.
No. 3 Carroll (11-0) has not allowed more than eight points to an opponent this season, and they rank No. 1 in the state in defensive scoring average.
Caston finished 2-9. Caston has never won a football sectional title, and they have not reached a sectional final since 2011.

Triton 56, Culver 0 (Friday): Jayden Overmyer ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns, and the Triton rushing attack averaged 8.9 yards per carry in beating host Culver in a Class 1A, Sectional 41 semifinal Friday.
Vincent Prater added 81 yards rushing and two touchdowns on eight carries.
Triton scored a defensive touchdown 56 seconds into the game after Overmyer sacked Culver quarterback Jonas McCuen from the blind side and forced a fumble that teammate Esai Lemler recovered in the end zone.
Triton led 20-0 after one quarter and extended the lead to 42-0 at halftime.
The second half was played with a running clock per the IHSAA mercy rule.
Culver is 3-3 all-time against Triton in sectional games. The other losses came in 1985 and 2018.
Culver has not won a sectional title since 2009.
Triton will host Hoosier North rival North Judson in the sectional final this Friday.
