None of the three Winamac girls, and none of the three Winamac boys advanced to state from the New Prairie cross-country regional Saturday.
In the boys race, Logan Fredel ended his prep career by finishing in 68th place in a field of 246 runners in 17:20. Other Winamac runners included senior Nathan Pierzchalski, who was 179th in 18:39; and freshman Paxton Moon, who was 207th in 19:00.
Northridge won the team title with 50 points. Penn (97), Crown Point (140), Goshen (159) and Lowell (163) also advanced to state.
Northridge’s Baylor Miller was the individual champion in 15:41. Every boy who ran 16:34 or faster advanced to state.
The fastest Lady Warrior was senior Avery Wegner, who ran a 21:58 and finished 143rd in her final race in the field of 242 runners. Other Winamac runners included senior Kandace Kroft, who was 159th in 22:20; and senior Madelyn Goodman, who ran a 23:44 and finished 220th.
Led by individual champion Macey Thompson, Lake Central took the team crown with 60 points. Penn (61), Valparaiso (171), Morgan Township (174) and Munster (191) also advanced to state. Munster edged Chesterton by one point for the sixth spot.
Thompson ran a 17:25 and won by 11 seconds over the field. Every girl who ran a 19:35 or faster advanced to state.
“Thank you, seniors,” Winamac coach Mike Haschel said in a statement. “Your example of showing up, lifting teammates and choosing the harder right will echo in this program. You’ve left the team better than you found it, and that is the lasting win.”
