Iverson scores career-high 32 in win over Oregon-Davis

Winamac 55, Pioneer 51 (Wednesday):

Kandace Kroft hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points, and Marissa Iverson added 12 for the host Lady Warriors as they knocked off conference rival Pioneer on senior night Wednesday.

Sadie Popejoy knocked down three treys and had nine.

Winamac won despite going just 3 for 8 from the foul line.

Winamac withstood a 30-point barrage from Pioneer senior Mia McKaig, who drilled eight 3-pointers. Liz Kennell and Hannah Zeigler had six each.

Winamac led 19-10 after one quarter but Pioneer shaved the deficit to 31-27 at halftime and 42-39 after three quarters.

The teams combined for 18 3-pointers and just 16 free throw attempts.

Winamac has beaten Pioneer four straight times.

Winamac finished 6-2 in the Hoosier North and in a tie for second place with Culver. North Miami won the conference title outright at 7-1.

Kroft, Iverson and Corinne Ulerick played their final home game. Winamac travels to Twin Lakes for their regular season finale tomorrow.

Pioneer went 3-5 in the Hoosier North.

Winamac 54, North Judson 36 (Jan. 22):

Kandace Kroft scored 13 of her game-high 24 points in the third quarter, and the Lady Warriors held off visiting North Judson Thursday.

Sadie Popejoy added 16 points, and Marissa Iverson had nine.

Cailyn Tunis led North Judson with 15 points. Winamac held North Judson point guard Shiloh DeBoard scoreless in the second half.

Winamac was already leading North Judson 19-14 at halftime before extending the lead to 44-19 after three quarters. Kroft and Popejoy combined for 21 points in the third quarter.

The Lady Jays made 7 of 17 free throws while Winamac was 16 for 24.

Winamac snapped a three-game losing streak to North Judson.

Both teams were eliminated from Hoosier North title contention due to North Miami’s 52-41 victory over Caston Thursday.

Winamac 77, Oregon-Davis 41 (Jan. 17):

Marissa Iverson scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Kandace Kroft and Sadie Popejoy combined to make 11 3-pointers for Winamac in a Hoosier North home win over Oregon-Davis Jan. 17.

Kroft finished with 22 points, and Popejoy had 17.

Winamac also made all 10 of their free throws.

Sarah Thompson had 15 points, and Gabriella Krause added 10 for Oregon-Davis.

Winamac led 41-22 at halftime and then tacked on 27 points in the third quarter.

The 77 points tied a season high.

Sadie Popejoy scored 15 points, and Kandace Kroft added 12, but host North Miami hit eight 3-pointers and earned a Hoosier North win Jan. 9 over Winamac.

Kayden Donaldson led North Miami with 14 points. North Miami went 10 for 12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter after Winamac hung within 40-33 after three quarters.

Winamac 77, Knox 51 (Jan. 6):

Sadie Popejoy hit seven 3-pointers and scored a career-high 32 points, and Kandace Kroft broke her sister Kingsley’s single-season record for 3-pointers for the Lady Warriors in a road win over Knox Jan. 6.

Kroft hit five treys and added 21. Kingsley Kroft, Kandace’s sister, held the previous record for 3-pointers in a season with 60.

Popejoy hit four 3-pointers in the second quarter and outscored the entire Knox team 22-21 in the first half.

Winamac hit 15 3-pointers as a team. Corinne Ulerick added two 3s, and Maggie Keller made one.

Winamac led 55-38 after three quarters.

This was the teams’ first meeting since Knox knocked Winamac out of last year’s sectional.

Kandace Kroft hit four 3-pointers and tallied 20 points, and Sadie Popejoy added 11 for Winamac in a loss to host Delphi in the third-place game at the Indiana Kitchen Classic Jan. 3.

Five different Winamac players hit a 3.

Freshman Ava Mills had 14, and Aubrey Frost had 11 for the Lady Oracles.

Delphi had 36 free throw attempts as compared to Winamac’s 12.

Kroft, who scored 70 points in three games, was named to the all-tournament team. Marissa Iverson received the Sportsmanship Award.

Rossville 61, Winamac 46 (Jan. 2):

Kandace Kroft nailed five 3-pointers and scored 25 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double, and Sadie Popejoy also had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, but Winamac lost to Class 1A, No. 8 Rossville in an Indiana Kitchen Classic semifinal at Delphi Jan. 2.

Rossville double figure scorers included Mallory O’Brien, who had 13; Ava Burkle, who had 12; and Allie Elliott, Addi Gorbett and Adalyn Farley, each of whom had 11.

Both O’Brien and Farley are freshmen.

Rossville led 23-7 after one quarter. Winamac cut the deficit to 31-22 at halftime.

Winamac hit seven 3-pointers but made just 8 of 19 free throws.

Tri-County flipped a 14-13 deficit after one quarter and turned it into a 27-24 halftime lead.

Madysen Spencer and Grace Tyler scored 15 points each for Tri-County, and Grace Luck added 14.

Winamac has not beaten Tri-County since December 2014.
