The Tippecanoe Valley girls swimming team won the Indiana Northern State Conference title Jan. 16 at their home pool, scoring 140 points to top a field of four teams.

Valley had more points than runner-up Bremen and third-place Knox combined (108).

Meanwhile, the Valley boys swimming team finished fourth with 46 points. Bremen won the title with 92 points.

In the girls meet, Abby Heckaman and Alayna Parker each won four blue ribbons for the Lady Vikings. Heckaman won both the 200 individual medley in 2:42.50 and the 100 freestyle in 1:00.14. Parker won both the 50 freestyle in 26.02 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.98.

Valley also swept all three relays with Heckaman and Parker each swimming a leg on the victorious 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Sophia Becker and Bailey Anderson joined Heckaman and Parker on the medley relay. Anderson and Mya Drudge joined Heckaman and Parker on the 400 freestyle relay relay, which Valley won by nearly 17 seconds.

Claire Haney and Malia Kreft joined Anderson and Drudge on the 200 freestyle relay.

Parker set new INSC records in both of her individual swims, and Heckaman broke the INSc record in the 100 freestyle. All three relays also broke the conference record.

Valley boys champions were Gavin Leininger in diving and Tucker Whetstone in the 100 butterfly. Whetstone’s butterfly time of 53.81 seconds was nearly seven seconds faster than runner-up Hunter Cannon of Bremen.

Leininger scored 174.00 points and beat teammate Grayson Clark by 81.90 points. Leininger and Clark were the only boys divers. Girls diving was not contested.

LaVille and John Glenn do not have swimming teams.
