Girls wrestling

The Rochester girls wrestling team scored 208.5 points to win the inaugural Three Rivers Conference tournament at the RHS gym Friday.

Northfield was second in the seven-team field with 151 points.

Rochester fielded a squad of 10 wrestlers, the most of any school. Seven won individual conference titles, including Lilly Gerald (105), Serenity Howard (115), Kyra Doran (120), Madelyn MacLain (125), Makenna McKee (130), Elise Enyart (145) and Laine Peppler (170).

Lexi Haughs (140) and Constance Velez (235) finished third, and Kayla Doss (190) was fourth.

Howard pinned Northwestern’s Raven Graber in her championship match after Graber had pinned her earlier in the evening.

Doran spent all of 56 seconds on the mat in two bouts to win her title. Peppler’s mat time was 1:27.

MacLain and Enyart had four falls each. As a team, Rochester had 17 falls.

The IHSAA fully sanctioned girls wrestling as a sport in April 2024, beginning with the 2024-25 school year. Southwood, Lewis Cass and Whitko are the three TRC schools without girls wrestling.

Sectionals are Jan. 2 statewide. Rochester will travel to Columbia City for their sectional.
