The Argos school board approved the hiring of Jason Breden as the new boys basketball coach at its Monday meeting.
Breden will replace Gordon Mosson, who retired after seven seasons in which Argos went 107-61 and won back-to-back sectionals in 2019 and 2020.
This is Breden’s first head coaching job.
Mosson retired with the second most wins in school history behind Phil Weybright. Mosson is also the all-time winningest coach at John Glenn, where he won 365 games from 1982-2007.
Breden is a 2016 LaVille grad. He played on LaVille’s 2015 sectional championship team and scored 455 points in his varsity career.
He then played at Indiana University South Bend and returned to LaVille to be an assistant coach on Michael Edison’s staff.
Argos went 18-6 overall and 4-1 in the Hoosier Plains Conference last year. They shared the conference title in its inaugural year.
The season ended with a 59-43 loss to Triton in the Class 1A, Sectional 50 final at Culver on March 6.
Of the nine players on last year’s varsity roster, two will graduate – Caden Nifong and Zak Heiman. Four starters are expected to return: guards Michael Richard and Jake Stults, forward J.J. Morris and center Dylan Kindig.
