Boys basketball

Argos 52, Elkhart Christian 35 (Feb. 25): J.J. Morris scored 20 points, and Michael Richard and Jake Stults added 10 each for Argos as they clinched a share of the Hoosier Plains title with a road win over Elkhart Christian on Feb. 25.

Dylan Kindig added eight points.

Argos led 26-13 at halftime.

Argos and Elkhart Christian tied for the Hoosier Plains title with identical 4-1 records.

Argos also won the JV game 50-40. Nate Manikowski and Luke Stults scored 11 points each, Tem Saichatawee had nine, A.J. Mills had eight, Hunter Xavier had five, Jared Frick had four, and Noah VanDuyne had two.

North Judson 65, Argos 61 (Feb. 18): Michael Richard scored 11 of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter, but the host Blue Jays earned a win over Argos on Feb. 18.

J.J. Morris added 14 points, and Jake Stults had 10 for Argos.

Payton Cox had 17 points, Blayne Wilcox had 16, and Cheyenne Allen had 10 for North Judson.

Argos led 33-28 at halftime, but North Judson outscored Argos 18-8 in the third quarter to lead 46-41 going into the fourth quarter.

North Judson also won the JV game 57-31. Nate Manikowski scored 17 points to lead Argos, Luke Stults added four, A.J. Mills and Ethan Petz had three each, and Noah VanDuyne and Tem Saichatawee added two each.

Argos 66, South Central (Union Mills) 43 (Feb. 15): J.J. Morris scored 19 points, Michael Richard had 18, and Dylan Kindig had 10 for the host Dragons in a win over South Central on Feb. 15.

Richard hit four 3-pointers while Morris made all five of his free throws. Each scored eight points in the third quarter as Argos extended their lead to 56-39.

Sam Haschel led the Satellites with 10 points.

Argos has won four of the last five meetings with South Central.

In the JV game, South Central pulled out a 38-27 win. Luke Stults had 11 points, and Hunter Xavier and Elijah Osborn had eight each for Argos.

Peru 51, Argos 39 (Feb. 5): Michael Richard scored 13 points, and J.J. Morris added 10, but Peru used a 19-1 third-quarter burst to beat the host Dragons on Feb. 5.

Richard and Morris combined for five 3-pointers and 19 points as Argos built a 29-18 halftime lead.

Richard and Morris combined for only four points in the second half.

Matt Ross led Class 3A, No. 6 Peru with 25 points.

Peru also won the JV game 40-29. Noah Van Duyne scored eight points to lead Argos. Nate Manikowski had six, Luke Stults had five, Hunter Xavier and A.J. Mills had three each, and Jackson Kindig and Ben Zahm had two each.

Bremen 66, Argos 64 (4 OT, Jan. 18): J.J. Morris scored 23 points, and Michael Richard added 22, but Argos lost a four-overtime marathon to Bremen at Phil Weybright Gymnasium in the Bi-County Tournament quarterfinals on Jan. 18.

Jake Stults added nine points for the Dragons.

The loss ended Argos’ 10-game winning streak. Argos’ previous loss was also to Bremen back on Nov. 24.

Argos could not hold onto a 23-11 lead after one quarter.

Argos led 32-28 at halftime and 42-40 after three quarters. The game was tied at 48 after regulation, at 54 after the first overtime, at 58 after the second overtime and at 61 after the third overtime.

Bremen outscored Argos 5-3 in the fourth overtime. Argos did not have a field goal in the fourth overtime.

Argos has not beraten Bremen since the 2019 Bi-County Tournament.

Carson Miller had 22 points, and Tony Hardin added 19 for Bremen. Ethan Nunemaker, who had five points, scored the go-ahead basket in the fourth overtime.

Argos prevailed 42-37 in the JV game. Nate Manikowski scored 19 points, A.J. Mills had 11, Tem Saichatawee had six, Noah VanDuyne had four, and Jackson Kindig had two.

Argos led 26-25 at halftime and extended the lead to 44-36 after three quarters before Bethany Christian rallied to tie the game at 51 at the end of regulation.

Argos won their eighth straight game overall and their third straight conference game. Argos also beat the Bruins for the 10th straight year.

Bethany Christian lost despite making (12) more free throws than Argos attempted (10).

Argos names Walter volleyball coach: Argos named Nichole Walter its new volleyball coach on Dec. 21.

Walter is an Argos native.

Argos went 3-23 overall and 2-3 in the Hoosier Plains last fall. The Lady Dragons lost to Oregon-Davis in three sets in the Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinals.
