Bailey, Murphy prevail, but Rochester’s season ends with loss to Knox

Bailey to continue in singles tourney

Knox 3, Rochester 2 (Thursday): Olivia Bailey won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and Emma Murphy won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, but the Rochester girls tennis team’s season ended with a loss to Knox in the sectional semifinals at Culver Academy Thursday.

Bailey won 6-1, 6-2. By virtue of going undefeated at No. 1 singles in the team sectional, Bailey’s season will continue in the state singles tournament. Her next opponent, site and time of match are to be determined.

Murphy won 6-1, 6-1.

Elle Straeter lost in straight sets at No. 2 singles. J.J. Graber and Abriella St. Martin lost in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and Ella Ramsey and Savannah Wolters lost in straight sets at No. 2 doubles.

Rochester finished 7-11. Bailey is the team’s only senior.

In Thursday’s other semifinal, Culver Academy shut out Plymouth 5-0. The Knox-Culver Academy sectional final will start at 5:30 p.m. today.

Ellie Straeter (RHS) lost 6-4, 6-3.

Emma Murphy (RHS) won 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles

J.J. Graber-Abriella St. Martin (RHS) lost 6-2, 6-1.

Ella Ramsey-Savannah Wolters (RHS) lost 6-1, 6-0.
