Argos 1, Winamac 0 (Wednesday): Kenyan Beldon scored on a penalty kick after Winamac was called for a hand ball in the box, and Sawyer Crace stopped all three shots he faced in goal for the Dragons in a Class 1A, Sectional 36 semifinal at Argos Wednesday.
Beldon’s goal, his team-leading 15th, came with less than five minutes left
Winamac had scored 81 goals in 16 previous games, but they managed just three shots on goal as compared to Argos’ 10. This was their third game this year in which they were shut out.
Winamac junior Sean Stark, who is second in the state in goals scored with 38, did not score in two games against Argos.
Argos improved to 11-4-2 and will play Caston in the sectional final at 2 p.m. Saturday. Caston blanked North Miami 2-0 in the other semifinal. Argos defeated Caston 5-0 on Aug. 23 in their regular season meeting. Argos beat Caston 7-0 in their most recent sectional meeting in 2020.
Winamac finished 10-5-2.
