Bozzo, Zink to play again Wednesday, could face Valley team

The Rochester boys tennis team’s No. 1 doubles tandem will play again on Wednesday.

Robert Bozzo and Brayden Zink will play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Culver Academy. They will play either Annikan Pettit and Cody Smith of Tippecanoe Valley or Charles Norton and Drew Ryser of Warsaw in a sectional match.

The match between the Valley and Warsaw teams will occur at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Culver Academy.

If Bozzo and Zink win on Wednesday, they will play again at 5 p.m. Thursday at Culver Academy against the winner of a match between teams from Manchester and Plymouth.

Bozzo and Zink defeated Pettit and Smith 6-3, 6-0 on Sept. 15 in their regular season meeting. They did not face the Warsaw team.

The singles and doubles sectionals will take place simultaneously with the team regionals at Culver Academy from Tuesday-Thursday.

In the team regionals, Columbia City will play Culver Academy, and Peru will play Bremen in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The winners return at 5 p.m. Wednesday for the regional final.

The Rochester team was eliminated with a 3-2 loss to North Judson Wednesday, but No. 1 singles players and No. 1 doubles teams that go undefeated in team sectional play are eligible to advance in their individual tournaments.

While five doubles teams have advanced to the next round, Whitko’s David Ousley is the only singles player to advance so far.

However, No. 1 singles players and doubles teams from Columbia City, Culver Academy, Peru and Bremen could be added to the mix if their teams are eliminated but they stay undefeated.

Admission is $7.
