Girls basketball
Pioneer 57, Winamac 42 (Tuesday): Ashlynn Brooke scored 13 of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter, and Hailey Cripe added 21 as the Class 2A, No. 10 Pioneer girls basketball team completed an undefeated Hoosier North season with a road win over Winamac Tuesday.
Brooke and Cripe combined to hit five 3-pointers. Brooke now has 80 3-pointers on the season, which is second in the state behind South Bend St. Joe’s Kelly Ratigan (89). Brooke also leads the state with her 25.7 scoring average.
Ella Gearhart had a team-high 13 points for Winamac. Kingsley Kroft hit three 3-pointers in the second half and had nine.
Pioneer beat Winamac for the third straight year. Historical records for girls basketball are sketchy prior to 2000, but it’s believed to be the first time in at least 30 years that Pioneer has beaten Winamac three straight years.
Pioneer had already clinched the outright Hoosier North title prior to Tuesday. They are now 18-4 overall and 7-0 in the Hoosier North.
Winamac is 7-15, 3-4.

Brooke nominated for player of week: Pioneer’s Ashlynn Brooke was nominated for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Franciscan Health Player of the Week award for District 1 girls for the week of Jan. 17.
Brooke averaged 29.3 points per game during the week. She broke the school’s single-game record for 3-pointers when she made 12 and scored 43 points in an 81-35 win over Peru on Jan. 20.
The award went to Jyah LoVett of Fort Wayne Snider. Brooke previously won the award for the week of Dec. 13.
