Burkholder has RBI, but Argos falls to Westville in sectional semis

Westville 11, Argos 1 (5 innings, Wednesday): Grace Thomas had a double, and Kendra Burkholder drove in a run in the third inning on a squeeze bunt, but the Lady Dragons lost to Westville in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at Westville Wednesday.

Kadyn Baughman, Shelbi Weiser and Lexi Schenkel had one hit each.

Aleasia Sarver pitched four innings and allowed 13 hits and 11 runs. She walked two, hit a batter and struck out two. Argos committed two errors that led to seven unearned runs.

Kiersten Vaughan went 4 for 4 with three RBIs including a double and a triple, and Madison Shaw had a double, a homer and two RBIs. Mackenna Warren singled and drove in two runs. Kierstin Vargas had two hits and an RBI at the plate and also pitched a four-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts in the circle. The only run she allowed was unearned.

Already leading 4-1, Westville scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to take an 11-1 lead.

Argos finished 7-16. Westville won their fifth straight game to improve to 17-8.
