Tippecanoe Valley 3, Southwood 2 (Wednesday): Dalynne Bussard pitched a seven-hitter with nine strikeouts and also hit a two-run homer as part of a three-run fifth as the host Valley softball team edged Southwood Wednesday to improve to 5-1 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Bussard had both of Valley’s extra-base hits, a double and a homer. Madi Smith and Maddie Thompson each had a single. Corinna Stiles also had an RBI and a run scored in the fifth.
Bussard outdueled fellow freshman Natalie Sutphin.
Rowan Goodpasture hit a two-run homer in the top of the first for Southwood, but they did not score again off Bussard, who did not walk a batter.
Valley is 5-1 in the TRC with conference games remaining against Northfield Monday, Maconaquah Tuesday and Manchester Wednesday, all at home.
